Anna Hyunah Byon

Anna is SEARAC’s Director of National Policy. They manage the policy team and its advocacy projects and cultivate relationships with federal policymakers to advance the organization’s national policy strategy.

Anna also previously served as SEARAC’s education policy manager from 2018 – 2021. In this role, they analyzed federal education policies, built relationships with policymakers to advance K-12 and higher education priorities for SEAA students, and supported SEARAC’s community-based partners and other civil rights coalitions. Anna’s policy advocacy experience also includes senior policy analyst and senior program manager roles at The Education Trust and The Leadership Conference for Civil and Human Rights, where they focused on higher education. They have also served as a congressional staffer, first as a Fellow with the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) and then as a full-time legislative staffer.

Anna is nonbinary and a 1.5 generation Korean immigrant. They hold a MA in Urban Education Policy and BA in Education Studies. When they’re not working, they’re probably wondering why their back hurts, and where that knot came from all of a sudden.
