SEARAC Condemns Monterey Park Attack, Holds Impacted Community in Our Hearts

We will not accept normalized gun violence

Washington, DC — SEARAC condemns this weekend’s violence and loss of life in Monterey Park during a time that our communities should be enjoying joyful Lunar New Year celebrations. Our hearts break for the victims and their loved ones. We send the Monterey Park community our love and support during this tragedy.

We refuse to be desensitized to our country’s gun problem, an epidemic that has been allowed to flourish for far too long.

That this attack represents the 33rd mass shooting of 2023, and the fifth mass murder shooting of this year, is staggering and unacceptable. We call on our elected officials to take action beyond thoughts and prayers.

And as always, we turn to each other and look to the light within our families and communities to serve as our steadfast beacon of hope during these times of darkness.
