Asian Journal Quotes SEARAC on Higher Education Act Policy Recommendations
The Asian Journal published an article about the efforts of a coalition of 48 civil rights groups – including SEARAC, the Leadership Conference Education Fund, the NAACP, and more – to reauthorize the 1965 Higher Education Act. The coalition aims to update the legislation to provide students of color with culturally aware and competent educational resources.
The article states:
“Quyen Dinh, executive director of the Southeast Asia Resource Action Center (SEARAC), noted that although data suggests that students who identify as ‘Asian’ are relatively better off, there are ‘extreme challenges’ faced by Cambodian, Laotian and Vietnamese students, the largest refugee community in the U.S., according to the Migration Policy Institute.
‘The first step to addressing inequities for these students is to be seen,’ Dinh said.“
