Position Announcement: Education Policy Advocate 

The Education Policy Advocate will provide a wide range of integrated advocacy, training, and organizational development services to and for Asian Americans and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities and organizations. S/he will be a highly skilled professional with a strong background in policy analysis and advocacy. Read the full announcement here. We will accept applications until 5/27/2011 or until filled.

This year, SEARAC is launching its first ever campaign to raise funds for its Leadership and Advocacy Training in Washington, DC on July 24-26, 2011. See what the training is all about in this video! Our goal is to raise at least $3,000 to help us keep this training running! The campaign starts today, May 18, 2011 and runs through midnight June 17, 2011. SEARAC partnered with the National Coalition for Asian Pacific American Development (CAPACD) to produce a report on the foreclosure crisis in the Central Valley and its effect on Cambodian, Lao, Hmong, and Vietnamese families in the region.  The new report, "Untold Stories of the Foreclosure Crisis: Southeast Asian Americans in the Central Valley" uses data analysis, focus group dialogues with local community members, and interviews with public agencies and housing counseling organizations in the Central Valley to inform its findings and recommendations.

SEARAC is in the Washington Post! Read our response to the article "Asian Americans outpacing peers" published in the Post last week:

"Those reading the April 6 Metro article “Asian Americans outpacing peers” should be careful not to embrace stereotypes that can limit the supports available to students whose needs are not included in this rosy outlook. While the article mentioned disparities within the Asian American subgroup, it did not shed enough light on how wide the gaps actually are. Students from Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands, in particular, are being left behind in our nation’s schools..."
