St. Paul, MN - After more than 387 days in immigration detention, Chamroeun Phan of Maplewood, MN, came home to his family on Monday. In May, Phan's immigration attorney, Mai Neng Moua, successfully argued that Phan's deportation to Cambodia should be cancelled because of the undue hardship it would cause his family. But the Trump administration appealed the immigration judge's ruling and refused to release him from detention.

Today, the Trump Administration announced that it will end of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). While those currently protected under the program will have six months until their status expires, no new applications or renewals filed as of today will be processed.

St. Paul, MN - Mobilized by the #ReleaseMN8 campaign, over 70 community members gathered at Ramsey County Attorney John Choi's office today to demand that he reduce Chamroeun Phan's 365-day prison sentence by one day, which would guarantee him automatic relief from deportation.

SEARAC denounces the Trump administration for threatening to use visa sanctions to punish the countries of Cambodia, Eritrea, Guinea, and Sierra Leone for delaying deportations from the United States. A group of U.S. deportees in Cambodia led a strong campaign this year to pressure Cambodia to stop all deportations from the U.S., effectively halting the issuance of travel documents a number of times in the past year.
