Profile: Cambodian Buddhist Society, Inc. (CBS) was established in 1976, making it one of the first Cambodian Buddhist temples in the country. Located just outside of our nation’s capital, the Temple has been providing spiritual and counseling support to Cambodian families for over twenty-five years. In addition to spiritual counseling, CBS offers a Youth Cultural Program, consisting of art, dance, and Khmer language classes.
Program Support: In its third year of the VERB project, CBS will continue to provide and improve on its art, dance, music and Khmer language classes. It will also introduce two new programs: (1) Computer Training for Youth and; (2) a Heath Program for Adults.
Organizational Development Support: CBS will continue to employ its part-time administrative staff to coordinate the social service activities/programs and train youth in the areas of outreach and public relations. CBS will also hire consultants (3) to provide trainings to its Board, staff and volunteers in the areas of web development, fundraising, and leadership development.

Profile: Khmer Association of Wisconsin, Inc. (KAW) is a volunteer-based MAA founded in 1996 to provide a variety of social and economic development services to the Cambodian community in the Stoughton area. Although it is not yet a 501(c)3 organization, KAW offers a Community Gardens program, a Senior Meals Program, and Youth Summer Camp Program to the local community. KAW also works closely and with the Cambodian Buddhist Society.
Program Support: In its third year of VERB funding, KAW will conduct voter registration drives to reach out to disenfranchised Cambodian-Americans; offer local youth with programs in leadership development and Khmer culture, as well as improve its Community Gardens program by providing its participants with a trainer.
Organizational Development Support: KAW will hire consultants to assist and train its board members and/or staff in the following areas: development of its financial system, fundraising, program development, organizational management, board development and evaluation.

Profile: The Khmer Buddhist Society, Inc.(KBS), which grew out of KAGT (Khmer Aid Group of the Triad, an MAA), was founded in 1989 to serve members of the Cambodian, Laotian, Thai and Vietnamese communities of the Piedmont. KBSI also assists Montagnard and Hmong communities through AmeriCorps and other programs. In addition to being a religious center, it is a cultural, social and recreational center.
Program Support: For the third year of VERB funding, KBS will offer a Summer Youth program that will provide opportunities for local youth to partake in various leadership and personal development activities, as well as host a talent show for the larger community.
Organizational Development Support: KBS will hire a consultant to train its board members in their roles and responsibilities and to conduct a board assessment and evaluate its sustainability.

Profile: The San Jose Cambodian Buddhist Society, Inc. (SJCBS) was founded in 1986 to respond to the needs of the Cambodian communities of San Jose and the South Bay of Northern California. SJCBS offers spiritual, cultural, and social programs/activities to the local community.
Program Support: In its final year with the VERB project, SJCBS will continue to improve/expand its Cambodian language class and offer a technical computer training program. It will also offer two new services to the community: (1) an information and referral service and; (2) a speakers’ bureau. In addition, SJCBS plans to do more collaborative work with other local community-based organization to implement a capacity building initiative.
Organizational Development Support: SJCBS will hire consultants to mentor, train, and assist with the implementation of its information and referral service, as well as board and staff development in the areas of roles and responsibilities, outreach strategies and resource development, among others. It will also purchase a server to expand the capacity of its technical computer training program.

Program Support:With the last year of VERB funding, Freedom, Inc. will continue to offer its Southeast Asian Family Unity Project, a project which focus’ on addressing the needs of Hmong and Southeast Asians facing deportation by providing case management services and coordinating community education forums.
Organizational Development Support: FI will hire consultants to assist with its financial administrative operations and fundraising efforts; enable its staff to enroll in classes on subjects relating to his/her work, as well as give its staff opportunities to attend various conferences relating to organizational development.

Profile: The United Hmong Association, Inc. (UHA) was founded in 1994 by members of eighteen Hmong clans of North Carolina to assist in their quest to become naturalized citizens. Since then, UHA has been serving the Hmong of North Carolina, especially those in Catawba, Burke, Caldwell and Alexander counties. UHA’s mission is to help the Hmong of North Carolina integrate into American society without having to sacrifice their cultural heritage and identity.
Program Support: In its second year of VERB funding, UHA will finish up its comprehensive community needs assessment and implement programs based on the assessment’s findings.
Organizational Development Support: UHA will conduct board retreats and develop a strategic plan. On top of this, UHA Board and staff will receive trainings in the areas of communication, organizational procedures, leadership development, grant writing and grant management, among others.

Profile: The Wisconsin United Coalition of Mutual Assistance Associations, Inc. (WUCMAA) was founded in 1986 by ten organizations serving the Hmong communities in the state of Wisconsin. Now, with a with a membership of 16 mutual assistance organizations, WUCMAA plays major roles in assisting its members to gain leadership skills and work with other organizations at the state level to improve the quality of life for the Southeast Asian refugee and former refugee population in Wisconsin.
Program Support: With its second year of VERB funding, WUCMAA will offer services to six of its member organizations with assistance and training in advocacy, organizational and resource development and grant writing. WUCMAA will also conduct on-site needs assessments of the six member organizations and conduct evaluations on the impact of the VERB services offered.
Organizational Development Support: WUCMAA will hire consultants to assist with its fundraising activities and train its staff and member organizations on grant writing and resource development.

Profile: The Khmu National Federation, Inc. (KNF) became a 501(c)3 organization in the year 2000. KNF’s mission is twofold: First, KNF seeks to improve collaboration and coordination among Khmu community members, and to facilitate the sharing of information and resources. Second, KNF improves the lives of Khmu locally and nationwide by addressing issues of cultural identity, literacy, and economic opportunity.
Program Support: KNF its third year of VERB funding, KNF will host a Khmu families’ conference and a Khmu community leaders’ forum. It will also provide on-site trainings and technical assistance to Khmu community leaders and organizations based on their needs, as well as facilitate strategic planning sessions for Khmu organizations.
Organizational Development Support: With the assistance from consultants, KNF will develop a fundraising strategy, improve its website and offer train-the-trainers trainings to its board members to increase their capacity to serve their respective communities.

Profile: The Lao American Women Association (LAWA) was established in 1995 to assist public and private agencies in meeting the needs of Lao American
women and to educate the general public about the situation of Lao American
women and the contributions of Lao Americans in general. LAWA also promotes
education in Lao language, art, and culture, and it collects and
disseminates information on Lao women’ issues.
Program Support: LAWA will continue to offer youth programs, such as its
traditional Lao dance class, youth forum and community engagement
activities. And in its third year of the VERB project, LAWA will offer a
new program: a Lao-American youth conference.
Organizational Development Support: LAWA will contract a part-time

Program Support: With the third year of VERB funding, ICAN will conduct a radio program to promote community awareness of youth and children related issues, and develop a Vietnamese Parenting Guide for parents, grandparents and care providers of children aged 0-5. It will also continue to organize community building events and activities, such as the Tet celebration and its Children’s Faire.
Organizational Development Support: ICAN will conduct a board retreat where members will get hands-on training in organizational development, Board assessment of strengths and weaknesses, and strategy development and team building. ICAN members will receive trainings in the areas of board governance, public and media relations, volunteer and donor management, and graphics and web development skills. In addition, ICAN will purchase software to track volunteers and donors.

Profile: The National Congress of Vietnamese Americans (NCVA) was founded in 1986 as a national forum for Vietnamese American civic participation. In recent years, NCVA has focused its’ attention on empowering individuals and communities at the local level in Northern Virginia.
Program Support: In its first year of VERB funding, NCVA will track policies affecting Vietnamese Americans, conduct voter education, provide leadership training to young leaders, lead community roundtables with other organizations to share best practices, strategize, discuss various topics, etc.
Organizational Development Support: NCVA will provide hands-on training to its interns and provide grant writing trainings to its Board members and send them to professional leadership development programs. In addition, NCVA will perform an organizational assessment, create marketing materials, develop an accounting system to track members, donors and volunteers, and develop a strategic plan.
