State Farm®:
Generous Supporters of SEARAC and Southeast Asian American Communities

State Farm® has been SEARAC's friend and loyal supporter.

Highlights in their long list of accomplishments with SEARAC include the following:

  • Leadership and Advocacy: State Farm® has supported all of SEARAC's Leadership- Advocacy Trainings. The Third Annual Training gathered together forty-five Southeast Asian American leaders in Washington, DC, from June 9th through the 12th for education, discussion, and networking with one another and with national-level decision-makers.
  • Higher Education: State Farm® generously supported the Summit on Pacific Islander and Southeast Asian Americans in Higher Education. The Summit, the first event of its kind, gathered together thirty-four scholars for information-sharing, brainstorming, and networking with one another and national leaders. In the coming months, the Summit Coordinating Committee will lead the production of a publication providing useful educational data on our communities of interest, strategies for addressing educational needs, and resources. SEARAC organized the Summit along with the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC).
  • Community Development: State Farm® has once again extended its generosity to SEARAC by granting funds to support the publication emerging from our Successful New Americans Project (SNAP). This major publication, which we will produce in September, will demonstrate strengths and challenges of Southeast Asian American communities throughout the nation, and will provide necessary guidance for our provision of technical assistance to refugee-led community-based organizations in the following year.
  • Southeast Asian American History: In December of last year, State Farm® supported a conference entitled "The Southeast Asian American Journey: Celebration and Exploration in the First Twenty-Five Years in Diaspora." We staged this conference at the University of California-Berkeley in partnership with UC-Berkeley's Southeast Asian Student Coalition, UC-Berkeley's Department of Comparative Ethnic Studies, and UC-Berkeley's Center for Southeast Asian Studies. Following upon this historic conference, SEARAC and its partners will produce a resource guide and a publication containing presented papers and other materials. We will also publish a paper drawn from the Youth Summit associated with this conference.

SEARAC was greatly honored in 2000 when State Farm® nominated SEARAC for the Conrad Hilton Prize. This prestigious prize, which carries an award of one million dollars, is awarded annually to a nonprofit organization in recognition of its extraordinary achievements.

Through all of these programs, State Farm® has supported the development of excellence among Cambodian, Laotian, and Vietnamese Americans. And throughout our relationship, SEARAC staff have appreciated the helpful and congenial attitudes of our State Farm® representatives — first David Wong, and now Kim Wong.

Thank you, State Farm®!
