Press release.

Washington, DC — The Southeast Asia Resource Action Center (SEARAC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jennet Sambour as its Southeast Asian American Women’s Leadership Advocate.

Ms. Sambour will focus on building a national network of Southeast Asian American women advocates to make a greater impact on policy, both local and national. "Nearly a million women with roots in Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam live in the United States, and many are fantastic advocates. Jennet is here to help them raise their voice more effectively on issues that are important to them, like education, health, poverty, and refugee protection. This position is even more significant because it is the only one at a national refugee-led organization in the U.S. to focus exclusively on advocacy," according to Doua Thor. Ms. Thor is SEARAC's Deputy Director, and the National Board Chair of the National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum (NAPAWF).

SEARAC is a national organization primarily led by, as well as for, Americans with heritage in Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam. Its constituents include a network of over 190 refugee-led community organizations throughout the country that can be viewed on-line at www.searac.org/maa.

Ms. Sambour's work is supported by a New Voices Fellowship. New Voices awards grants to nonprofit organizations demonstrating a commitment to cultivating the leadership potential of creative and diverse “new voices” in the fields of social justice and peace.
