SEARAC Applauds Introduction of the
Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America's Security and Prosperity Act (CIR A.S.A.P)
Washington, DCToday, Congressman Gutierrez, along with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, The Congressional Asian and Pacific American Caucus, the Congressional Black Caucus, and Congressional Progressive Caucus introduced the "Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America's Security Act and Prosperity" (CIR A.S.A.P.) in the House of Representatives.
The Southeast Asia Resource Action Center (SEARAC) applauds Congressman Gutierrez for his leadership in outlining a progressive vision for immigration reform that is desperately needed. As an organization serving communities who arrived in the U.S. as refugees, SEARAC recognizes the impact and importance that immigration reform has on our communities and the need for it to be a top priority in congress at this time.
SEARAC also applauds the tri-caucus support of this bill. In particular, Congressman Honda who is chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), for his leadership in ensuring that Asian Americans remain a critical voice to decision makers in immigration reform.
Doua Thor, Executive Director of SEARAC states, "Behind the immigration debate are millions of American families who are daily casualties of a failed immigration system. We can wait no longer for common sense immigration reform that equally values the human rights of all people while upholding our nation's laws. Now is the time for immigration reform."
SEARAC looks forward to working with congress, and to engaging the growing Southeast Asian American community toward an immigration reform bill that ensures the rights and protection of everyone.
