"My recent work is largely inspired by childhood. As a kid, I spent most of the days outside, in the fields, looking after buffaloes. I occupied my time making toys, slingshots, and playing many other games. Cambodia was going through a time of great turmoil. But as a kid, I was fascinated by everything: nature, music, and the stuff people use to survive on in the farm. Kondal Reatrei has in it that sense of lightness and a sense of awe in the night sky. The title is from a Sin Sisamouth song, in which he sings about a love memory."
