Summit Information Sheet

URGENT INFORMATION. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY.

Participants coming from Territories in the Pacific have a hotel room reserved for the nights of 5/16, 5/17, 5/18, and 5/19.

Coordinating Committee members have a hotel room reserved for the nights of 5/16, 5/17, and 5/18.

Other participants have a hotel room reserved for the nights of 5/17 and 5/18. SEARAC has already made these reservations.

Please review the attached sheet to make certain that your name appears in the correct category and is not misspelled. Please inform Eloise Needleman (1-800-600-9188) if there are any mistakes, or if you will not occupy your room for any of these nights. This will help us to conserve limited resources.

When checking into the hotel, please inform the desk clerk that you are with the "Educational Summit."

Summit funds will only be able to cover the room nights mentioned above. If you plan to stay additional nights, please make those arrangements yourself as soon as possible. May is a very busy month in Washington, DC.

TRAVEL:

Participants from the Territories in the Pacific will have their travel plans made and their costs covered through the University of Guam. For information, please contact Edeine Laguana at 617-735-2411 or 2398, or at edeinel@hotmail.com.

Participants from Hawaii will have their travel plans made and costs covered by Kamehameha Schools. For information, contact Carol Maunakea at (808) 534-3803 or camaunak@ksbe.edu.

Coordinating Committee members will have their travel expenses covered in full. Please call Burke Travel at 1-800-328-3488, and they will directly bill UNCF for your expenses.

Participants covered by UNCF: Five randomly-selected participants (see attachment) will have their travel paid for by UNCF. These participants should make travel plans with Burke Travel (1-800-328-3488), which will bill UNCF directly.

Other participants should make their own travel plans. We suggest that you contact Burke Travel at 1-800-328-3488.

The Summit will reimburse all travel expenses to the greatest extent possible, pending fundraising success. Please make travel plans as soon as possible in order to keep costs down.

TRANSPORTATION FROM AIRPORTS:

From National/DCA, cab fare is approximately $10-$15. Metro (subway) service is available, also: take the Blue Line to the Capitol South station (Approx. $1.50).

From Dulles and Baltimore-Washington International (BWI) Airports, the Super Shuttle is available ($25 - $30). Super Shuttle: 1-800-bluevan (1-800-258-3826). Call for information. (Cab fare is $60+.)

DRIVING:

Please be aware that the hotel cannot guarantee parking. Call the hotel for further details.

From National/DCA: Follow signs for Washington, DC. You will be going northeast on the George Washington Parkway. Exit I-395 North and cross the 14th Street Bridge. Exit Route 1 North on the other side of the bridge. (It is a left exit.) At the second traffic light turn right onto Independence Avenue, SW. Follow Independence Ave. up to Capitol Hill. On top of the Hill you will turn right onto 2nd Street, SE. The hotel is one block down on the left corner.

From Dulles: Take Dulles Access Road to I-495 North. Take George Washington Parkway exit off I-495 North. Take the Parkway into Washington, and exit at I-395 North at the 14th Street Bridge. Across the bridge take exit Route 1 North, and turn right at the second traffic light onto Independence Ave. Follow Independence Ave. up to Capitol Hill. On top of the Hill, turn right onto 2nd Street, SE. Hotel is one block down on left corner.

From BWI: Follow exits for Washington, DC — I-295 South (I-295 South is also the Baltimore-Washington Parkway). Follow parkway to Washington. Take exit for Richmond I-295 South — not Pennsylvania Ave. You must turn around and go west on Pennsylvania Ave. Follow Pennsylvania Ave. to 2nd Street, SE and turn right on 2nd Street. The hotel is one block down at the corner on the left.
