20K in 5 days starts today – will you join us?

Today, SEARAC launches our first-ever weeklong fundraising drive to raise $20,000 by this Friday, November 30. Our goal may be ambitious, but we are ready to start 2019-our 40th anniversary year-as strong as ever. We need to, in order to fight back against the ongoing attacks on immigrant and refugee communities.

DONATE TODAY

Your gift can give voice to the more than 14,000 Southeast Asian American (SEAA) families living in limbo with a loved one facing deportation. Your donation will support incredible, inspiring advocacy from our community members, such as the 10 brave women who lent their voice to Dreams Detained, in Her Words. A joint collaboration between SEARAC and the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum, the report chronicles stories of loss, struggle, and resilience following the detentions and deportations that continue to devastate SEAA communities with limited mainstream attention.

As part of the launch, five of the women came to Washington, DC, to share their experiences during a pair of Congressional briefings, as well as legislative visits with their elected officials.

Janit Sachaeo, immigration advocate

For example, Oregon resident Janit Sachaeo, pictured at right, was able to meet with the offices of Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, and speak about the emotional and financial hardships of having her father abruptly detained after having already served a prison sentence. She was able to describe how today she still is healing from his extended absence, which took place during the first 10 years of her life.

With your donation, together we can continue to uplift these stories.

Thank you for standing with us. Because of you, we will keep pushing our representatives in Congress to acknowledge the deportation and detention crises happening in Southeast Asian American communities and to denounce them once and for all.

In gratitude,

Katrina Dizon Mariategue
Director of National Policy

P.S. If you donate at least $100, a funder for SEARAC will generously match your gift so that your donation is essentially doubled, and you’ll get a special SEARAC T-shirt and be entered into a raffle to win an iPad as a token of our gratitude. Moreover, your donation will also help us meet a $2,000 matching gift!
