The Fight Isn't Over: Senators Make Desperate Effort to Repeal the Affordable Care Act

Jul 25 The Fight Isn't Over: Senators Make Desperate Effort to Repeal the Affordable Care Act

Call your Senators today
Last week, four Republican Senators came forward with their decision to not vote for the Better Care Reconciliation Act (BCRA), the most recent attempt to replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA) with amendments from Senator Ted Cruz. The BCRA was stopped in its tracks, saving the ACA for now.

But the fight is not over! The Senate Republican leaders are desperate and currently scrambling to pass any measure to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

Senate Republican leaders are aiming to hold a vote on a "motion to proceed" to open the floor to negotiate a repeal of the ACA TODAY.

Repealing the ACA is a non-starter - hands off our health care!
The Senate is likely to vote on 3 versions:

1. AHCA House Bill
a.       Would result in 23 million more uninsured Americans by 2026
b.       Ends Medicaid expansion through major funding cuts
c.       Reduces premium subsidies for moderate-income families and increases premiums for the near-elderly

2. BCRA with Cruz amendments
a.       Would result in 22 million more uninsured Americans by 2026
b.       Ends Medicaid expansion through major funding cuts
c.       Puts high costs back on the consumer, violating consumer protection
d.      Would result in more out-of-pocket costs and higher deductibles
3. "Repeal and Replace Later"
a.       Would result in 32 million more uninsured Americans by 2026
b.       Ends Medicaid expansion through major funding cuts

NONE of these options are in the interest of the Southeast Asian American community, low-income communities, or communities of color.

Southeast Asian Americans have benefited significantly from the ACA, and we cannot return to times when almost 1 in 5 of our community members had no health insurance. Contact your Senator to vote NO against a motion to repeal the ACA!

YOU CAN PREVENT THIS: HOLD CONGRESS ACCOUNTABLE

1. Contact your Senators and your Representative to stop repealing the Affordable Care Act/ObamaCare. Call 202-224-3121 three times to be connected to your Representative and both Senators.

Sample Script:
"I'm your constituent from [City, State], and I urge you to oppose the "motion to proceed" to repeal the ACA. This proposed health care replacement will put millions of Americans at risk of losing access to affordable and quality health care and will increase health disparities and cause more deaths. We need a plan that will improve and increase access to affordable health care."
