Methodology
Data for this edition of the Directory were collected between
September 1, 2002 and April 30, 2004 by Thanh Tran, formerly a
SEARAC Graduate Intern and the Program Director of the National
Alliance of Vietnamese American Service Agencies (NAVASA), and
by Sophy Pich, the Project Associate of SEARAC's VERB project.
Others who assisted with data collection include Eloise Needleman,
former SEARAC Administrative Manager; Saroeun Earm, former
SEARAC Intern; and Saeng Ratsabout, former Laotian American
National Alliance (LANA) Intern. Data collection, analysis, and presentation
took place under the direction of Max Niedzwiecki,
SEARAC's Executive Director, and Sophy Pich.
The survey used to collect data
and the terms of reference for the survey were developed by Max Niedzwiecki and KaYing
Yang, SEARAC's former Executive Director. The survey and terms of
reference were mailed and faxed to all known MAAs and religious
organizations that were believed to fit the criteria offered in the "definitions"
section above. Survey-givers then followed up with the organizations
by telephone. Most of the surveys were completed by telephone
in English and Southeast Asian languages.
Barry and Andria King of Wyrdwright, Inc. developed the
Directory's searchable database and designed the Directory's
Internet pages. They also provided layout services for the
Directory's Internet and paper editions.
