Percentage of MAAs and Religious Organizations by State

Of the total 188 MAAs and FBOs sampled, 30 percent are located in the state of California. This is not surprising considering that California is home to 39 percent of Southeast Asian Americans. Minnesota, home to 84,062 Southeast Asian Americans, is a distant second with 11 percent of groups in the survey. Wisconsin, home to only 47,575 Southeast Asian Americans, also has 11 percent of total groups. Texas, the state with the second largest population of Southeast Asian Americans (163,625), only has 3 percent of the total MAAs/FBOs accounted for in this Directory.

A number of states, especially those that have few Southeast Asian American residents, had no recorded organizations*. States with no organizations included Alaska, Arkansas, South Dakota, and Wyoming.

* Population figures are from the 2000 Census, which significantly undercounted Southeast Asian American populations.
