Hmong National Development, Inc. (HND)
HND was created to provide services to the Hmong communities across the United States. Originally organized as the Hmong National Planning Committee in 1987, HND was formally incorporated in 1993 in Washington, D.C. Soon after, HND received a three-year grant from the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) to focus on strengthening Hmong communities by providing resettlement assistance to approximately 100 Hmong community groups across the country. For two years HND maintained a presence in the D.C. area, as well as an operations office in Nebraska, which provided community development and organization assistance, and produced a self-help book on fundraising called Resource Development Guide. In 1996 the Nebraska office was closed, and the national office was relocated to its current site in Northwest D.C. Since that time, HND has provided workshops in communities about citizenship issues to welfare reform and has helped to organize groups around this crisis by providing updates on legislative information to more than 112 MAAs throughout the country. In addition to its commitment to the Southeast Asian Citizenship Collaborative, HND has collaborated with the Asian Pacific Americans and Latin American groups, more specifically the National Asian Pacific American legal Consortium and the Latino American Advocate Council.
