Cambodian Community Development, Inc. (CCDI) is a grassroots volunteer-based organization founded by a group of concerned community activists in 1997. CCDI assists Cambodian refugees in Oakland, CA in overcoming social, cultural and economic barriers to reach independence and self-sufficiency.

Currently, the agency serves approximately 500-1,000 refugees per year in one or more of its programs. In the five years since its founding, CCDI has developed its capacity to meet the many needs of the Cambodian community by making creative and efficient use of very limited staffing and funding.

HELP Goals:

  • To achieve funding for capacity building to support a long-term basis for senior project.
  • To leverage resources and services through coalition and partnership.
  • Sustain program initiative beyond funding period.

The Lao Iu Mien Cultural Association, Inc. (LIMCA) is a non-profit community-based organization, incorporated in 1982. The mission is to preserve the cultural heritage of the Iu Mien who came from the highland Lao tribal community and to develop social and cultural programs to help facilitate the Iu Mien integration into the economic and cultural life of the United States.

HELP Goals:

LIMCA's goal for “Building a Healthy Elder Iu Mien Community” is to implement the following programs:

  • Elderly Support Group to address the issues of isolation, depression, and/or other mental health and health issues
  • Health Education Workshops to provide preventative health education classes and workshops
  • Nutritional Meals
  • Elders Activities through field trips to expose them to healthy living by implementing tai chi classes, going to the parks, educational visits
  • Resource and Community Access to help elders navigate through the healthcare system.

The United Iu-Mien Community, Inc. is a grassroots non-profit organization founded in 1994. The mission of is to preserve and teach the Iu-Mien culture, assist Iu-Mien to adjust to living in America and to promote a healthy community through education, advocacy, mentoring, outreach and other support services and referrals that are culturally appropriate and in the spirit of collaboration to bridge cultural and language barriers.

HELP Goals:

  • Building agency capacity to become self-supporting
  • Bringing the identity and issues of the Iu Mien to wider community attention
