SEARAC is proud to introduce you to its first ever running team!  Our runners have been training hard for the 2011 “Run Long Beach” races happening Sunday, October 9th in the beautiful city of Long Beach, California. These runners have generously designated SEARAC as their charity of choice, and before they finish up their final month of preparation, they want to reach out to you for additional support! Help them reach their goal of raising $2,000 for SEARAC before October 9th! Donations must be submitted online by 11:59 pm PDT October 8, 2011.

Donating:

Cat is the District Director for California State Assemblymember Mariko Yamada and previously worked as the former California Policy Advocate for SEARAC. Her family came to the United States as refugees from Cambodia in 1982 and eventually settled in Modesto, CA. When asked why she is running for SEARAC, Cat shared the following:

"SEARAC gave me an opportunity to have my family's story be heard. It empowers the voices of our Southeast Asian American communities so that their stories may be used to inform public policy locally and nationally."

Hong Tang

Hong and his family came to the United States as refugees from Cambodia. His family identifies as both Cambodian and Teo Chew. Besides working as an Accounting Systems Analyst for the County of Los Angeles, Hong also volunteers for Gaginang, an organization dedicated to empowering the Teo Chew community. When asked why he wanted to support SEARAC, he shared the following:

"Teo Chew people are originally from Southern China and immigrated to different parts of Southeast Asia throughout history. SEARAC advocates for a lot of Southeast Asian Americans, but what people do not know is that a lot of those refugees have Teo Chew heritage as well. Supporting SEARAC is great, because I know that I am helping a lot of different communities."
