Research

SEARAC’s original research reflects the understanding that Southeast Asian Americans and their communities experience specific strengths and challenges that require special attention when it comes to policy and funding allocation. This may seem to be self-evident, but Southeast Asian Americans have found that the “model minority myth” – which holds that all Asian Americans exceed educationally, economically, and in others ways – continues to prevent decisionmakers from seeing the communities clearly.
SEARAC has a long history of publishing original research, which we have used to guide capacity-building programming, advocacy efforts, and fundraising. Early publications focused on the needs of Boat People, the character and importance of MAAs, best practices for MAA organizational development, and other topics. More recent reports have focused on data that help policy makers and advocates better understand our communities.
