Grandparents Day is September 9, and SEARAC is launching our “Grandparent Wisdom” project to celebrate!

To participate, simply visit our tumblr site to submit a photo of your grandparent(s) and answer the question: “What have your grandparents taught you?”

Then, visit to “Like” your favorite photo. SEARAC will give away a SEARAC t-shirt to the person whose photo gets the most “Likes” by September 9th at midnight. The winner will be announced on September 10th.

We call on communities who are faced with school-to-prison pipeline, juvenile and criminal justice, racial profiling and re-entry issues to stand with us in this fight, because these are our experiences too. We call on communities fighting for immigrant rights to stop using “criminal” vs. “non-criminal” language in the immigration debate, as it plays into a system of language that oppresses and simplifies our stories, and divides immigrant communities.

A day before the two-year anniversary of the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) the Southeast Asia Resource Action Center (SEARAC), Stone Soup Fresno and members of the Hmong Health Collaborative joined health care advocates, direct services organizations, and community members in advance of the first California Health Benefit Exchange Board (HBEX) meeting held in Fresno to celebrate the ACA and advocate on its implementation. As a key component of health care reform, the HBEX will serve as a regulated marketplace that will help consumers buy private health insurance.
