On November 29, SEARAC and California partners of the Ensuring Our Healthy Future Campaign gathered to participate in a “train-the-trainer” workshop geared towards preparing community based organizations with the tools necessary to educate community members about the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

As one of the goals of the Ensuring Our Healthy Future Campaign (see description here), this training was an important step in helping community based organizations know the “ins-and-outs” of health care reform and feel empowered to help their community benefit from the new law. Because the ACA can be dense and complicated, participants learned how to talk about the ACA in common terms and narrow their narrative to focus on key demographics including: elders, uninsured individuals, families with children, and young adults under 26.

In addition, participants developed skills to help their clients avoid Medicare fraud and better protect their Medicare benefits. This workshop was held at the Fresno Interdenominational Refugee Ministries in Fresno, California.
